Douglas Creek Canyon: Cornbread to the Rescue

Imagine: A canyon, ancient, volcanic... now idylic, with a beaver
dam and little stream meandering through sarvisberry, wild currant, and willow.
Hillsides covered with wild buckwheat, penstemon, milkweed, balsam root, camas, prairie stars, lupine, and large flowering collomia (pictured here).
Hiking, rock hunting, listening, exploring...
And then sudden hunger, unplanned, uncomfortable.
Thank goodness, in my backpack I'd stached a freshly made loaf of cornbread, and little packets of honey. We split the little loaf in half, and it saved the day!
